Stencil Printing Technique
Hello Everyone – I had fun playing with a new stencil printing technique for the background of my card.
I needed to make a birthday card for Jake as his birthday is the beginning of December. Here is what I came up with.
I have made cards for Jake before and he loves the whale ones I have done. I decided to use the Whale Done stamp set and add an action wobble to add some fun to the card.
This card began with the stencil challenge at CAS Mix Up challenge.
I knew I had the perfect stencil to use for this challenge and my card.
The stencil printing technique was used to create the background. I began by adding Misty Moonlight and Balmy Blue ink to the scallop stencil from the Plenty of Patterns set of stencils. After you apply the ink you then spritz with water or shimmer spray. I chose to use shimmer spray to add some sparkle and make it look like waves.
After adding the shimmer spray I flipped the stencil over onto a piece of card stock and use a paper towel to press down and absorb any excess ink. Then you set the card stock aside and let it dry. I love how this method adds shimmer.
All I had to do then was stamp, punch, and assemble my card. Jake is going to love the action wobble. The card has only a few layers so here are the measurements.
Measurements
Card Base: Night of Navy 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″
background layer: White 4″ x 5 1/4″
background layer for sentiment: Night of Navy 1″ x 2″
sentiment panel: White 3/4″ x 1 3/4″
It was easy to decorate the inside of the card and envelope using the whale stamp.
Here is another idea for an ocean themed card I sent to Jake. If you have some squares of pattern paper you can easily create this card that also used that cute whale.
There are a few supplies I used that are retired. The denim ribbon was perfect for this card. To do the technique I had to have shimmer spray so I pulled out the spray I made using the shimmer paint and used it. Here are the rest of the supplies I used for my card.

Wonderful stencil monoprint Robbie, and a sweet card. Our CAS challenge requires more open (white) space in order for the design to be CAS. Hope you’ll play along again in the future with a CAS design.
