Card Sketch A Day cards

Hello Everyone!

Today’s cards are for Card Sketch A Day blog. Susan sent me the sketch for today. She does a great job of coming up with sketches and then sending them to friends who request them. I love to do this as I get the sketch before it is posted and then create my cards and send them to her. We then post them on the same day. If you ever need an idea for a sketch check out her blog as you can always see the sketch and then some cards made using her sketch.

I saw on a couple of blogs some different ways to watercolor images. One used watercolor paper and embossed the image but it only had 1 color. Patty at Patty’s Stamping Spot posted directions and a video for her Watercolor Roses which was her version of a technique by Crystal French. Her technique uses Shimmery White paper. I have been trying to get my flower to have 2 shades of purple and decided to give this one a try.

I ended up using ideas from each technique. I began by using watercolor paper and stamping my image and embossing it. I then used my aqua painter and soaked the paper. I then used my markers (I did not have reinkers in the colors I wanted to use) and colored the entire image with Almost Amethyst. I then used my Lovely Lilac marker and scribbled inside the petals. I then took my aqua painter and spread the ink around. I then used my heat gun to dry it. While I like how it turned out as it did have some color variation I still need to work on it to get more variation. As a hint, I wanted to use a really dark color also so I tried Elegant Eggplant. This was not a good idea as it looks brown in some areas (see flower on inside of card). I needed to highlight the pistols and stamen so I tried using my white Sakura gelly roll pen. It did not work – not sure if this is because the paper was a little damp. I would love to find a white pen that really works. I have tried several and had no luck. Here is the sketch and my 2 creations.
