A New Venture

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday. The weather was warm yesterday for the Air Show but with the clouds today it may be a little bit more cooler.

I wanted to share an organization I ran across this weekend while I was blog hopping. On one of the blogs I visited they mentioned a Cards for Heroes organization that ships bank handmade cards to our troops overseas. The troops can then use these cards to send a note home. Often our guys are in places that do not have stores they can go to and get a card when they need one. I thought this was a wonderful idea and I realized I had a lot of handmade cards sent to me over the years that I could re purpose. I contacted the organization and was told I could cut the card fronts off and attach to blank white cardstock folded for a regular invitation size card. So I started working on Saturday. I was able to get 3 boxes of cards redone.

There are some stipulations with the cards. There cannot be any glitter (didn’t know this but the glitter can stick to their clothing and thus make them visible in night vision). After sifting through my stash and taking out the cards with glitter on them her is what I will be sending out on Tuesday.

120 cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so excited to be able to send these cards off to someone who can use them. I have a lot of swaps from conventions I have attended as well as swaps I have participated in and I just realized I have a lot of ATC’s from swaps that I can make into cards so I will work on them slowly and get them out for our troops.
If you would like to help out this great organization, click on the blinkie on my sidebar and it will take you to the organization. Don’t feel you have to send them a large amount of cards, they will take 1 or 2 donations. You also do not have to send envelopes and no plastic sleeves (trash the troops have to get rid of). I used mailing labels to make a label for the back of my card to help expedite the processing. I have also bundled my cards by category to help out.
I plan on taking some time each month to work on holiday cards (they have them listed on their website) so that when the call comes out I have a bunch to send them. I will post pictures so you can see what I will be sending. These will be cards that are easy to mass produce so that I can do a large number. I may even solicit some volunteers! 🙂
I hope you will consider supporting this organization with a few creations of your own. Have a Super Sunday afternoon! I am off to make a card to post tomorrow.
