Trying Something New

Sorry for the late post today but I was busy finishing up my cards for today. I didn’t think I would be able to take pictures as it was rainy. We even had a thunderstorm! But the sun is out now and the wind is blowing so I was able to get my pictures.

Laura Fredrickson has a great blog, Scrapnextras, where she shares her lovely cards with us. One of the ideas she uses is to create a weekend sketch set. She takes several sketches, 1 stamp set, same colored cardstock, and some patterned paper to create 3 or 4 cards. I was inspired by this post to create my own sketch set.

Our Creative Corner has a color challenge this week, Bashful Blue, More Mustard, and Not Quite Navy. I decided to use those colors for my set. I then went looking and found several sketches that I liked. Finally I chose my stamp set. Here are my creations.

The first card uses the sketch from Page Plans. I had to get ribbon on my card so I used the horizontal element for my ribbon and layered 2 ribbons for some interest. I also stamped and cut out the little flowers from the image to pop some for some interest.

Stamps: Eastern Blooms Paper: Bashful Blue, More Mustard, Not Quite Navy, white, Patterns Pack DS Accessories: Bashful Blue – More Mustard – Not Quite Navy – Old Olive markers, ribbon (wide – Ribbons And Bows Oh My ; narrow – JoAnn’s), silver brads (Pink Hedgehog), Notched Corner punch (retired), sticky tape, dimensionals
The second card uses the Our Craft Lounge sketch. I did change the flower element to a ribbon bow as the main image was large flower. I also used patterned paper for the strip at the bottom that was supposed to be a ribbon. Here is the second creation.

The last card in my set uses the sketch from Verve’s Mojo Monday blog. I just got the Oval All stamp set and the new Scalloped Oval punch and decided to use them on this card. This one was fun to make and I like how it turned out. Nothing elaborate or hard on this card. Here is my creation.

Hint: to hide the tails on your brads, use a piece of matching patterned paper and cut a strip as a decorative element.
Well what did you think of my sketch set? I really like the process as I was able to create 3 different cards from the supplies I had out. I have my monthly workshop tomorrow so I’m not sure I will get a chance to make a card to post. I may try to make a card for Sunday but the post will be late. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

  1. I like the idea of using different challenges with one stamp set. I will need to try that myself. I liked the designs, but I was not crazy about the colors. The blue and white I liked. Sandy
