Using Punches in Different Ways

The sun is out again today! It is so nice to see the sun after a week of rainy cloudy days. I was checking out my bulbs that were coming up and noticed something ate my bulb shoots around my lamppost. It is probably deer. I have been looking for ways to deter them. Anybody have any ways that have been successful for them?

Okay, on to today’s card. I read a “Be Inspired” challenge on the Cuttlebug blog. The challenge was to use your punches in unusual ways. The first punch I thought of was the scallop edge punch and how you could use it to make a caterpillar. So I grabbed some scrap paper and started playing. After several tries I figured out if you use paper that is 15/16″ wide and line up where you start your paper to punch each time you can create a caterpillar. I was able to create one long one that I cut in half. I still need to work on making it look more real – maybe by sponging on other colors.

After I had my caterpillar I needed some grass for it to be crawling in. I grabbed some scrap strips of green and started cutting. When finished I stuck the caterpillar in the grass and made sure some blades of grass were in front to make it look like it was crawling in the grass. I then used a scallop circle punch to make clouds in the sky. The background is the Bloom Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder. I used chalks to highlight the embossed dots. I added a butterfly charm I got in the beading section of Michael’s. Fun card to do. Here is my creation.

inside of card (sorry it is blurry, still need to figure out what to do to avoid this)

Paper: Glorious Green, Green Galore, Night of Navy, white Ink: Ballet Blue, Summer Sun Accessories: chalks, Basic Black marker, ribbon (Pink Hedgehog), butterfly charm (Michael’s), Scallop Circle & Scallop Edge punches, Bloom Dots Cuttlebug Embossing folder, sponges, sticky tape, dimensionals
I hope you pull out your punches and look at them in new and different ways. Thanks for looking and have a great Sunday!
