Alcohol Marker Background Idea

Alcohol Marker Background Idea

Hello Everyone ~ If you have not tried the Alcohol Marker Background Idea yet you have got to try it!

I have been wanting to try to use alcohol markers to create a background in quite a while.  There are tons of videos all over the internet with ideas.  I decided today was the day!

Basically you scribble on Vellum with your alcohol markers.  When I say scribble that is exactly what you need to do.  Don’t worry about if the colors blends or not ~ you do need to use colors that when they mix you do not get brown!

After you scribble all over you then take 91% alcohol ~ do not use 70% as it takes too long for it to dry and the effect is not the same ~ and with a paint brush you dab the alcohol on top of the scribbled background.  The effects is a blended background of color.

One of the videos I watch by Tina Zinck had a twist on the technique that I decided to try on mine.  She embossed the vellum so I pulled out one of my embossing folders and did the same.  She then took the Crumb Cake ink pad and swiped it across both sides of the vellum.  I used the Crumb Cake on the raised side of mine and Daffodil on the back as I did not like the look of the Crumb Cake with mine.

The next step is the best part.  Using a rectangle die, cut out the middle of the panel.  This will allow you to use that piece on another card ~ loved this idea and can’t wait to play with the other piece.  When you cut out the center, it will flatten your embossing but the effect is still there.

Now apply your panel to your card base using glue you dab on the back with a sponge.  Make sure you put glue on all the vellum or you will have portions that will pop up.

For the element I created another panel of the blended vellum.  I attached it to a white panel just like above.  I stamped the image with Versamark and used gold embossing powder to emboss the image.  The coordinating dies were used to cut it out.

Then all you have to do is finish your card.  Here is my version of Alcohol Marker Background Idea.
