Hello Stampers!
Well the sun came out for about 5 minutes today. It was good to see blue sky but then it was gone again. I sure hope it is at least a little sunny today. The wind did die down so that is good.
Today is the color challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments. This week we had some challenging colors.
I have to admit I really struggled with these colors. I am not a fan of Cajun Craze and to me Tangelo Twist stamps muddy. I was bound and determined to see what I could do with these colors. I set about making my card. I used a sketch challenge to help me out. I found one at Paper Craft Crew Challenges.
I figured this would help give me some inspiration. I set about making my card. To me these colors said Fall so I decided to go for a Fall card. I used the For All Things stamp set and created my card. When I was finished, all I could say was “This is one ugly card!”. Here is my card.
I had made up my mind that I would post this card and then immediately throw it in the trash. I showed my card to Jess and she agreed it was ugly. I then showed her the colors I had to work with and she said “I would have tried to do some kind of ombre”. Well that got me to thinking. I decided to see if I could redo the card. I went with the ombre idea and since I am not fond of these colors I needed to so something that was ombre but little colors. I thought of the Striped Scallop thinlet and decided to see what I could do with it.
To make this work I cut a piece of paper the size I needed for my card. I then cut strips of card stock in the colors I had to use. I glued them to the other piece in an ombre fashion. When it was dry I ran it through the Big Shot with the thinlet. It did not cut through the 2 pieces of paper so I ran it through a few more times. I ended up having to punch out pieces and readjust it on the plate and run it through again. I had to do this several times. I finally got all the pieces cut out.
I then applied glue to key points on the back of the thinlet and set it aside to dry. By letting it dry before you apply it to your card base you do not get the oozing of glue and it sticks just as well. After the glue was dry I attached it to my layer. Then I needed a sentiment so I decided to use the sentiment from the set I used for the ugly card. When I set it on the card, it was too bare so I pulled out the burlap ribbon. I added a strip across the top then added my sentiment. To add a little bling I pulled out the gold sequin trim and added 2 strips. I then added my card to a base and it was done. I showed it to Jess and she really liked this one. I think it is much better also. Here is my second card for the challenge.

So what would you do with these colors? We would love to have you play along with us. Check out the creations by the other design team members and then share your card with us at Hand Stamped Sentiments.
Thanks for visiting me today. What do you think of my cards? Do you agree with me that the first one is an ugly card? Let me know. Have a Terrific Tuesday!
Robbie
Been there, done that, Robbie. I've finished a card but thought it was ugly, posted it mainly because I had worked at the last minute and I was out of time, then in the trash it went. I wouldn't say yours is all that ugly, just not up to your usual par. But I really like the second one. Good job on the remake.
Robbie, amazing card! Thanks for joining Paper Craft Crew 🙂 Eva
Hi Robbie, OMG, you are so not alone when it comes to making an "ugly" card, tossing it and starting over again. I couldn't tell you how many times I've done that! But, I actually really like (and honestly prefer the first card over the second!) Either way, thanks for joining us at the Paper Craft Crew again this week. Happy stamping! Crystal
