Homemade Card Techniques

Homemade Card Techniques

Hello Everyone – I have another homemade card techniques idea to share with you today.

Well I finally got my Facebook Live in last night. I was beginning to think the card was jinxed as I had tried for 2 previous weeks to do it. Sometimes the best laid plans don’t always work out. I am glad I can move on to another card idea.

We have a new challenge this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments. This one is a sketch challenge.

When I saw this I immediately thought of the inlaid technique. I love doing techniques so I decided to use this idea for today’s card.

Since I wanted to do a Fall card I chose to use Cherry Cobbler and Crushed Curry. I also grabbed a great Fall stamp set Quiet Meadow. To add some interest as the finished inlaid panel seemed plain I added an embossed panel behind it. I love the Brick & Mortar embossing folder. When I look at this folder I think of vines climbing up up the wall so when I have flowers I think of this folder.

There are a couple of things I learned in doing this card that I will pass on to you.

  • first – cut your panel and then cut your circle to inlay in the panel. Flip the panel to the back and use some double sided tape to ensure the circle stays in place.
  • second – since you are cutting why not do the reverse of the colors so you are making 2 cards at once
  • third – make sure your panel and circle will fit onto the embossed panel. I cut my panel and circle and never even measured. That meant I had to shift my image layer over to get it to fit on the card front.
  • fourth – use a smaller image panel. I should have cut some off of the left hand side of the image panel so it would have fit on the card front better.
  • fifth – use a smaller circle. I used the next to the largest circle in the Layering Circles die and it is way too big.

Now that I have passed on some hints on making this card, here is what created. I took my suggestion and made 2 cards for the homemade card techniques idea.

Don’t you just love seeing the 2 reverse cards side by side? I stamped the image on the inside and the envelope using the same color as the card base to add some interest.

I have used this stamp set several times. This idea is a quick and easy and so pretty. I used one of my favorite color combos – Coastal Cabana and Black – for this beauty!

  1. Inlaid die cutting is one of my favourite techniques too. I love how you have made two cards for the price of one. love that flower stamps too xx

    • Hilary,
I love using this technique also.  I think it is a great way to extend the use of our dies and make them worth their money.

I figured since I was having to cut for one why not just do another one with the reverse of the colors.  Great use of time.
That stamp set is my focus of my Advanced Class this month.  I love this stamp set and would love to see it in the annual catalog next year.
Thanks for leaving me a comment!
      Robbie
