Another Week Ladies ~ had a great time at the show and did 8 Weekend Make-n-Takes.
The weekend was a lot of fun. We did a lot of laughing and eating. We also went shopping and picked up a few things. It was an adventure getting to the Convention Center. There was a concert Friday evening the same night as our Make-n-Takes. They had the parking blocked off and it took us forever to get around to the Convention Center where we had to go. Then on Saturday we knew where to go and how to get there this time as it was blocked off again. On Saturday they actually had a Comic-Con in the building where we were. When we left the show there people of ALL ages dressed up. We actually saw 2 people dressed like the witches from “Hocus Pocus”. It was fun looking at the different costumes. After the show on Saturday we went shopping at a mall and at the outlets. I picked up a new small cross body bag for OnStage in 2 weeks. The one I have was good, but with my new phone it is tight to get it in there. I went just a little bigger so I can put my phone in my purse and not have to worry about it.
Friday night we did the Make-n-Take the tour offers. There were 8 vendors who each came up with a card and we rotated through the tables to make the cards. Halfway through we took a break and had desserts. There were so many to choose from. Then we went back and finished the last 4 cards. When we finally got back to the hotel room we were tired. For those that know me they know I craft standing up and yes I stood up for the card that evening. People kept asking me if I wanted to sit down and I said no I always craft standing up. It was interesting making the cards and I learned some interesting information about our products compared to other companies. Here are the Weekend Make-n-Takes I made along with my thoughts on the products.
The first card was a company who made dies. The center is one of the dies they created. The dies were very pretty but I think they would be very limiting. This company was actually supervised by 2 guys. Needless to say the card was very simplistic.
The second card had lots of layers. The paper however was very thin. We also used a colored shimmer pen which was very faint compared to the sample which I think was due to all the use. I think it should have lasted longer.
The third card used embossing and a die cut. I did my own thing with this card as I did not like the card at all. I used pigment ink to color the snowflakes. For the die cut I brought it home and used my markers to color it. They had used daubers and the pigment ink to color the die cut and then fill it in. I like mine much better than the one they had.
The next card was not bad. We used alcohol markers to color the images. The top flower was then cut out. I had a green ribbon in my kit that did not match the green ink so I brought it home and popped up the flower. I added a ribbon from my stash and one of our clear faceted gems in the center.
This card was completed exactly as the sample. The dsp has a texture to it which is not a bad thing. We colored it with markers but as you can see the colors do not match the paper. The ribbon also does not match the colors.
I love the fold on this card. It is a buckle card but how they used a square with a cut out to keep it closed. The card does not pop and I think it is because they used a white card base. I also find the paper they chose for the 2 squares to be too busy for the stamping.
This card was cute. We really only had to assemble it as they had all the pieces colored and die cut. I put mine together before I stamped the sentiment so I had to stamp the inside sentiment when I got home as I needed to use the heat tool to loosen the pieces then stamp it and reattach it.
The last card used an embellishment that I was not familiar with. I loved the idea. The paper was very thin and too busy for me. The embellishment is a flat back tin pin. It is in the middle of the shell. The tin pin is about 1/2″ thick so it will cost more to mail. I may try and see if I can use this idea to come up with some ideas using our supplies.
Thanks for visiting me today and here is a synopsis of what I learned. Our card stock and designer series paper is top quality and thick to allow you to make cards that will stand up to mailing. Our paper, ink, coloring tools, and embellishments all coordinate and match so it is easy to create a card where the colors all match. Our snail and glue is far superior to the glue sticks and tape runners they used. The glue stick they used did not stick and the glue they used was messy. Have a Marvelous Monday and I hope you enjoyed seeing my Weekend Make-n-Takes and learned some new things from my comparisons.
You nailed it on the convention products. I also think SU is far superior and with that said, I will not complain about the expense anymore!!
Now, that doesn’t mean I won’t attend another event because I thoroughly enjoyed being with you and the others, just maybe closer to home 🙂
Thanks Barb! It was a great weekend and I am glad you think my comparison was good. Can’t wait for our next adventure!
