Hello everyone – mixed media Monday #20 is Spooky & Creative: A Mixed Media Halloween journal idea full of frightful fun! 🎃👻.

I love how this mixed media idea turned out. Sometimes I am not thrilled with the finished product as it just does not say “WOW”. This idea is not one of them and to think I did not like my background before I added the other elements.

Today’s Project

I started today’s page by creating a watercolor background using green and orange. When it dried I hated it. I left it overnight and did some thinking. I decided to try adding a layer of black overtop. Once it dried I hated it even more. I decided to keep going as not every project turns out great. My next layer was to add some stamping in the upper right and lower left corners. I still wasn’t thrilled with the look but I decided to try adding a rub-on in the center and some more rub-0ns in the upper left corner and middle. The advantage is that it hid most of the background.

The stamping and rub-ons quieted the background so you did not focus on it so much. I also added some laser cuts which gave the whole page a spooky vibe. With all the elements the background takes on a different look. I really love how the black over the orange and green gives it a Halloween night look!

This is another mixed media page where I liked the background – this one was smooshed ink hidden with some strips of pattern paper. Another favorite uses a stencil created background with some stamping over it and then some laser cuts added.

Did you like the Spooky & Creative: A Mixed Media Halloween journal idea full of frightful fun! idea? I did not until I was finished. That background nearly made me throw it in the trash. With all the other elements added on you don’t even notice it.

Have a Marvelous Monday!
