From Memory Dex to Happy Mail: Using a Mini Memory Dex for a Greeting Card

Hello everyone – my new series for Anything Goes Saturday uses a card that was popular 11 years ago to create the From Memory Dex to Happy Mail: Using a Mini Memory Dex for a Greeting Card.

I signed up for one of Jamie’s earlier classes recently when she had a sale. I have always loved memory dex cards so I wanted to take her class and improve my skills with them.

Today’s Project

A memory dex is a spin off of a rolodex – where we used to keep names, addresses, and phone numbers. The originator took the idea and turned the information card into an art card. When it first began the cards were stored on a fancy rolodex. These could then be displayed for others to see your art work. I do not have a spinner to store mine on so I am on the look out for one of those. I am also planning on using some of mine for card fronts to show easy it is to create these little pieces of art and then use them in your card making.

For my first idea I chose to use a pattern paper that caught my eye when I was shopping my stash looking for a paper to use. My eye was drawn to the pink watercolor look paper with script writing scattered on it. I decided to use the plaid on the back of the paper as the mat layer. I cut the papers so there was a small border of the plaid paper showing. The pattern paper I used had a coordinating ephemera pack so I chose a cute watering can with flowers in it. I will be using this collection of pattern paper and ephemera for this series.

One of the elements of a memory dex is the use of tags and tickets. I chose 2 papers from the collection and some mini tag dies to cut them out. A heart was also cut out of the watercolor script and added.

I created a memory dex card in 2017 that I also made into a card. You can see that one here. Here is another card I made the same year. You can see a big difference in the 2 cards that were created about a week apart.

I did not share how I used the memory dex to make the card on the video. I took the card and added it to an embossed panel. I found some ribbon in my stash that matched and added it. The panel was then added to a pink cardbase. To finish it off some silver gems were added. Here is what my completed card looks like.
